Commissioner Bill Rhoades said vehicles parked along the curb are too close to the crosswalk at the intersection of Fort Wayne and Tamarack streets. He said he feels the yellow painted curb by the stop sign at the intersection allows people to park on the street too close to the street's crosswalk.
The commission approved his recommendation to move the yellow painted curb marking back 30 feet from the crosswalk to require drivers to park further back along the streets.
Rhoades also said he was concerned about a north-south alley at the 300th block of East Center Street, behind Cox Studio, Elks Lodge and N&J Auto. He said he has been approached by members of the Elks Club about the alley becoming congested, and suggested making the alley one-way east.
The commission approved making the alley between High, Detroit and Center streets a four-way stop to alleviate congestion.
The commission also discussed creating acceleration and deceleration lanes at the intersection of Anchorage Road and U.S. 30.
The plan commission approved a preliminary plat at its June 12 meeting from petitioner Haldewang Associates LLC to create seven new commercial lots from the original 13 acres at Anchorage Point Subdivision.
The property is at the southwest corner of the intersection of U.S. 30 and Anchorage Road.
Conditions were placed on the preliminary plat that the traffic commission review whether there should be acceleration and deceleration lanes at the intersection.
The commission approved recommending to the plan commission installing a right turn lane for westbound traffic on Anchorage Road and change all radii to accommodate trucks at the entrance and exit.
Warsaw Police Department Lt. Kip Shuter addressed two traffic concerns during the meeting.
Shuter said he had received a request for a handicapped parking spot to be installed along the 100 block of West Main Street in front of Reinholt's Furniture.
He said there is currently handicapped parking spaces at the intersection of Lake and Main streets and Buffalo and Main streets on the courthouse side. The commission approved installing a handicapped parking space at the west edge of the alley by the store.
Shuter also said he had concerns with the speed limit along CR 300N between Ind. 15N and Silveus Crossing being too slow with increased commercial development traffic.
The current speed limit is 30 miles per hour. The commission approved increasing the speed limit for westbound traffic to 45 miles per hour from the hillcrest west of Shelden Street to Silveus Crossing. They also approved posting a reduced speed ahead sign in the eastbound direction of CR 300N and Heron Boulevard.[[In-content Ad]]
