Top Three Students Named At Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER - Megan Keffaber and Ashley Penrod are co-valedictorians for the Manchester High School class of 2002, and Marie Weller is the salutatorian.
Keffaber and Penrod maintained perfect grade point averages of 11.0 over four years.
Keffaber is president of the student council and was class president for three years. She is a member of National Honor Society, the Principal's Group and Living in Full Effect. She is a three-year member of the publications staff, serving as editor-in-chief, copy editor and a member of the newspaper and magazine editorial board.
She also is a 10-year 4-H member and a member of the girls' basketball and tennis teams, earning Three Rivers Conference All-Academic honors and Rotary Mental Attitude awards for both teams. She has been named outstanding Spanish student, Purdue Junior Scholar for Mathematics, Hugh O'Brien Youth Ambassador and Student Counselor, and Wabash County DAR Good Citizen for 2002.
Keffaber plans to attend Purdue University to study student communications, and hopes to attend law school. She is the daughter of Kerry and Betsy Keffaber.
Ashley Penrod also is a member of National Honor Society, serving as president this year. She has been active as vice president of the student council and was class representative for three years.
Penrod has earned TRC All-Academic Honors as a member of the volleyball and track teams and as captain of the volleyball team. She also has won Scholar Athlete and Rotary Mental Attitude awards.
Other honors and awards for Penrod include 2002 Lilly Scholar and Indiana Hoosier Scholar, Academic Excellence and Highest Honor Roll for four years, Purdue Junior Scholar in biology, President's Education Award and Indiana Elks Association Scholar. She also is a 10-year member of 4-H.
Penrod plans to attend Ball State University and major in education, with the goal of becoming a teacher and coach. She is the daughter of Darrell and Marilyn Penrod.
Marie Weller was named salutatorian with a grade point average of 10.98. She has been active in school musical theater productions as performer, choreographer and student director; editor-in-chief, copy editor and a member of the newspaper and magazine editorial boards; secretary of National Honor Society, class representative for Spanish Club and a member of Art Club.
She also earned an Academic Honors diploma, Academic Excellence and Highest Honor Roll awards for four years, President's Education Award and Quill and Scroll Honor Society.
Weller is a four-year member of the gymnastics team and former team captain. She has been an actress with the Wagon Wheel Playhouse and the Wabash Area Community Theatre since 1998.
The daughter of Worth and Susan Weller, she has been accepted at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she will major in acting, and plans to pursue an acting career. [[In-content Ad]]
