Tommy James Signed For June 21 Concert In Park
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
After introducing Janelle Wilson as the parks department activity director, parks superintendent Jon Garber presented a $22,000 contract for an appearance by Tommy James and the Shondells June 21 in Central Park.
Garber advised the Warsaw Board of Works members Friday that the musicians will appear for one hour beginning at 8 p.m. at a cost of $22,000.
Garber said the price has been covered by donations.
The board approved a contract with GAI Consultants for an East Center Street traffic study in the amount of $5,300.
The engineers will study the traffic patterns at two intersections: Center Street at Harrison Street and Center Street at Cleveland Street.
The contract is a result of questions regarding the placement of street cuts for a Kroger Co. gas kiosk request that came before the Warsaw Plan Commission.
The board also approved a $5,383 change order for work at the new Warsaw Police Department facility. So far the original Robinson Construction contract of $710,025 has been increased by 3.43 percent to $734,388.
Mayor Ernie Wiggins said an open house will be held after the department moves into the Fort Wayne Street building.
In other business the board:
• Heard from Sally Hogan of The Center for Arts and Culture about the Gathering of the Arts and Culture set for April 19 and 20 in the Eagles building, 117 E. Center St.
A fire watch will be conducted by the Warsaw Fire Department because the second floor is not equipped with a sprinkler system.
• Received a list of 19 city employees who are YMCA members.
• Ordered a two-day suspension of Bob Hiers following an employee grievance hearing in executive session.
• Opened one bid from W.J. Carey Construction in the amount of $194,960 for boardwalk construction and other work on the Beyer Farm Trail portion of the Lake City Greenway.
Carey's company was the only bidder, the estimate was approved pending review by GAI Consultants and the city attorney.
A boardwalk, connecting the Kosciusko Community Hospital property with Pike Lake Park, will be constructed through a wetland area.
• Approved a two-year wireless service agreement with the parks department.
• Approved Dunn and Associates as third-party administrator for city health care.
• Approved an application for taxicab permits as submitted by David Cesaretti.
• Approved Oakwood sexton David Shaw's request to purchase a Toro riding lawn mower for $7,000 with a $1,500 trade-in.
• Approved a $450,000 grant application through the Federal Emergency Management Administration Fire Act to build a new training facility. The fire department would pledge 10 percent, or $45,000, for building if the grant is awarded. Preliminary plans are to locate the facility at the airport, though board members expressed concern about smoke wafting across the runways.
• Approved payment of $1,100 per month to the Animal Welfare League - $13,000 annually.
• Approved a contract with MedStat for various services, including injury treatment, routine physicals, drug use testing and alcohol use testing.
• Approved a release of liens at 612 W. Wilson St.
• Approved travel requests for Mike Wilson, Craig Warren, Tony Faucett, Randy Hart, Mike Cox, Chuck Hodges and Elaine Call.
Board of works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith. [[In-content Ad]]
