Tired Of An Unkind World
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
There's no cure for cancer. Or AIDS.
Human rights are being violated in China, in South Africa and in Kosovo.
People in the United States kill one another over a pair of shoes or the color of another's skin. Thousands of children die every day around the world from malnutrition, neglect and abuse.
Men beat their wives and children. Teenagers become alcoholics daily.
And all the while, people turn the other cheek.
Companies merge and lay off hundreds or thousands of employees. A serial killer strikes again.
People burn books, music, movies and art because they find the material offensive. They think everyone has the same morals and values, or should have the same ones as them. Forget the first amendment.
A young adult tries drugs for the first time and becomes addicted. Another one sells their body for money to survive on the streets.
Parents kick their children out of the home as soon as they reach 18, graduate from high school or sooner. They don't want to help or raise their children no more than they have to or is required by law.
Someone gets raped by a stranger in their own home, or maybe it's a person they thought they knew well. A little child finds their parent's gun and fatally shoots himself.
Landfills are piling up, the ocean is being polluted. Syringes and other dangerous devices are found along the coast. The rain forest shrinks by the minute, the air is already unbreathable in Los Angeles and Brazil.
Community hospitals are being bought up by non-profit companies and the poor are turned away. They can't afford the rising cost of medical care.
They'd pay for insurance, but $5.15 an hour just isn't enough to pay the bills.
It's Disney buying up this and Disney bought out that...it's a small world after all.
Microsoft, AT&T, Warner Brothers and Ted Turner own the rest.
New viruses are detected on a regular basis. They mutate and become more invincible. The world's population is exploding, making the spreading of viruses easier.
Over 6 billion people served!
People opposed to abortion protest against it by blowing up clinics. Persons opposed to homosexuals kill gay persons or protest at the gay person's funeral.
Christians hate Muslims and Jews. Forget that the bible teaches us not to hate.
Immigrants face prejudice and get beaten to death. If they're not like us, they don't deserve to be in our country.
People turn the other cheek.
The saying, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," has gone out the window. It's not fashionable anymore.
Forget that everyone in the world are human beings, forget they bleed like we do. Forget about the children, the women, and the elderly. Just forget about compassion altogether. If it's not in the national interest, it's not worth the time.
We've only got to protect our purse strings, to make sure we are number one.
If a man is beating his wife, it's none of our business. If a woman is beating her children, it's none of our business. If a country is slaughtering his minorities, it's none of our business.
Unless, of course, the U.S. economy depends on those minorities, then we can make threats.
As we get older, we get colder. We no longer see the world through the "eyes of a child." We say it's nice that someone wants to change the world, but in the back of our minds we say, "they'll grow out of it. They're just naive and young."
The dollar bill becomes our God and religion is something we practice in order to look good in front of our neighbors.
A basketball player can make $71 million in seven years, but a mother of four can't afford child care. A baseball player can make $10 million a year for three years, but a father won't pay $10 a day for child support.
If Generation X, or Y or Z fail to care anymore about the world around them, who's to blame?
Their parents don't care, business owners only care if it's good public relations and government only "pretends" to care if they can raise taxes by pretending to care. The younger generations are constantly bombarded with bad news -Êlower future employment opportunities, sexually transmitted diseases and single bombs that can destroy the world instantaneously.
The political left tells them one thing, the political right says another thing. Those in the middle give them mixed singles.
Who's right? Who's wrong? Does it matter? Maybe it doesn't.
If I seem a little sarcastic, that's because I am. If I seem a little tired of the games that people play, that's because I am.
Everyone wants to get back to "family values," but no one seems to know what they are. Politicians talk about "family values," but no one says whose family values they are talking about.
But can you really trust a politician?
And if I've upset someone, irritated someone, or if everyone is nonchalant - I refuse to apologize. [[In-content Ad]]
