Tippy Valley Stops TRC Losing Streak

MENTONE - The Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team broke its TRC losing streak by beating Manchester 16-14, 17-15 on Thursday. The Vikings had lost 42 TRC matches in a row, dating back to 1989.
Valley's Rhonda Doud was 13-for-14 serving for 12 points, including an ace. All 12 points came in the final game. Teammate Emily Cripe was 10-for-11 serving for nine points, including an ace.
Andria Parker led Valley with 27 attacks and finished with 10 kills. Amy Nellans had 10 attacks, three kills and nine blocks. Deb Burch led the Vikings with 10 assists.
"It was a big conference win," Viking coach Jon Parker said. "I was extremely pleased with our senior play. Emily Cripe and Johnna Cripe turned in great play from the back row. Deb Burch helped control the match with her setting."
Jodie Peden had five blocks and three kills for Manchester, while teammate Carrie Rodriguez had five digs and two aces. Karmen Miller had four assists.
Manchester won the junior varsity match 4-15, 16-14, 15-5. Michelle Gerber had three blocks, three digs and three assists. Sherri Wagoner turned in eight service points. The junior varsity Squires are 7-3.
Valley, 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the TRC, hosts a 6 p.m. match with Argos on Monday.
Manchester, 5-11 overall and 0-2 in the TRC, competes in the Elmhurst Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Warsaw NLC Streak Hits 47
At Plymouth, the Warsaw Tiger volleyball team won its 47th NLC match in a row by punching out the Pilgrims 15-4, 15-13 on Thursday.
Lisa Estep and Sarah Calhoun each had eight kills to lead Warsaw. Ann Fribley contributed six kills, seven digs and three aces. Melissa Bolles finished with 14 assists, and Jessica Zaugg added eight.
Plymouth won the junior varsity match 15-13, 2-15, 15-6. Megan Burns led Warsaw with 11 kills, while Liz Owens added eight and Tiffany Thomas six. Warsaw's junior varsity team is 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the NLC.
The varsity Tigers, 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the NLC, compete in the Ben Davis Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Triton Defeats Elkhart Baptist
At Elkhart, Triton's volleyball team improved to 11-3 with a 15-6, 15-8 win over Elkhart Baptist on Thursday.
Heather Barron led Triton with eight assists, while Holly Hepler added six. Teri Hackett had four kills, and Audra Meinert had two. Hepler was 10-for-10 serving with an ace.
Triton's junior varsity team improved to 6-2 by beating Elkhart Baptist 15-7, 15-4.
Triton hosts a 6 p.m. Saturday match with Caston.
Wawasee Gets First NLC Win
At Syracuse, the Wawasee Warrior volleyball team beat Concord 15-13, 11-15, 15-2 Thursday for its first NLC win. The Warriors are 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the NLC.
Jaclyn Craver led Wawasee with nine kills, while Lydia Carpenter had eight, Kaiyra McLaughlin five and Kara Mathew three. McLaughlin had five blocks, while Carpenter had four. Whitney Pilcher had seven digs and two aces. Mathew had 14 assists and 11 digs.
Wawasee lost the junior varsity match 15-12, 15-10.
Wawasee hosts an invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Southwood Socks Whitko
At Wabash, the Southwood volleyball team beat Whitko 15-10, 15-8 on Thursday.
Whitko trailed early in the second game then rallied to tie it 8-8. Southwood then scored seven unanswered points to seal the win.
Jamie Brown led Whitko with two aces, five assists and one dig. Amber Landis had four kill, one block and 13 digs. BrieAnn Starkweather had four kills and a dig. Tisha Shepherd had two kills, one block and three digs.
Whitko's junior varsity team improved to 9-2 by beating Southwood 15-3, 15-12. Ellie Deckena had five kills for Whitko, while Stephanie Warner had two aces and five digs. Aly Frantz had two blocks, and Tisha Rowland had three assists.
Whitko competes in the Wawasee Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Warsaw Wins By Forfeit
At Rozella Ford, Warsaw's golf team made sure it entered Saturday's sectional on a winning note with a Thursday win over West Noble.
Warsaw shot a 189, the eighth time in 16 matches the Tigers shot below 200.
Tricia Suchecki, Amy Landis and Brooke Westover each fired a 47 to lead Warsaw. Julie Arnold shot a 48, and Ashley Cooper shot a 55. Cooper's scored was dropped from the team total.
