Tippy Valley Girls Improve To 10-1

WABASH - The Tippecanoe Valley girls' cross country team upped its record to 10-1 with a Tuesday win.

Valley won a three-way match with Southwood and Caston, taking five of the top 10 places to finish with a score of 28. Caston was second with 46, while Southwood was last with 60.

Valley's Jenny Day won the race with a time of 16:52. Also for Valley, Kelly Walters placed fifth with a time of 18:05, Aura Strohschein sixth with a time of 18:12, Christina VanCleave seventh with a time of 18:18 and Tamar Strohschein ninth with a time of 18:23.

Southwood won the boys' race with a score of 24 and was followed by Caston with 32 and Valley with 84. Southwood's Brad Lovellette won the race with a time of 17:18.

Valley competes in the Manchester Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Warsaw Competes At Northridge

At Middlebury, the Warsaw cross country teams competed in a Tuesday triple dual with Goshen and Northridge.

In the boys' race, Warsaw beat Northridge 25-31, but the Tigers lost to Goshen 15-42. Goshen beat Northridge 22-38. Northridge's Adam Troyer won the race with a time of 16:21. Warsaw's top time was turned in by Will Woodward, who finished eighth with a time of 17:21.

In the girls' race, Northridge beat Warsaw and Goshen by 15-50 counts. Goshen defeated Warsaw 20-38. Summer Boyd had Warsaw's best time, finishing sixth in 16:30. However, the Tigers had three girls achieve personal-best times. Julie Wilhite was 15th with a time of 17:58, Alicia Kingston 20th with a time of 19:07, and Jenny Ellison was 27th with a time of 22:33.

The Warsaw teams compete in Saturday's Manchester Invitational at 9:30 a.m.

The Warsaw Tiger soccer team hosted and beat Mishawaka Marian on Tuesday, upping its record to 8-3-2.

Warsaw scored all the goals it would need in the opening half, finishing with three before halftime. Jeremiah Wallen had the first goal for Warsaw, while Jon Earhart added the second two on assists by Kevin Stouder and Nate Krogel. Krogel had Warsaw's last goal, which came on an assist by Josh Wallen.

Matt Brown recorded three saves for the Tigers.

"Everyone played well," Warsaw coach Corey Rose said. "Scoring was evenly separated. We played consistent from the start and got on top of them early. The defense stepped it up like it has in the last six games."

Mishawaka Marian slowed down the Warsaw's junior varsity team with a 3-0 win.

Warsaw hosts a 5 p.m. Thursday game with Northridge at the CCAC.

• Volleyball

Triton Defeats Bremen

At Bremen, the Triton volleyball team continued its torrid pace by smashing Bremen 15-3, 15-1 on Tuesday. The Trojans are 18-4 overall, 3-1 in the Northern State Conference.

Teri Hackett was 16-for-16 serving with seven aces, while Megan Sarber was 10-for-11 serving with four aces. Chris Scott had three kills. Heather Barron had six assists, while Holly Hepler had three.

Bremen won the junior varsity match 10-15, 15-6, 4-15. Triton's junior varsity team fell to 8-3 with the loss.

Triton has a match at Oregon-Davis at 6 this evening.

Northfield Beats Manchester

At North Manchester, the Northfield volleyball team downed the Squires 15-8, 12-15, 15-0 on Tuesday.

Jodie Peden had six aces and four kills for the Squires. Carmen Miller had three aces, as did Natalie Stambaugh. Michelle Gerber had three kills. Erin Groombridge led with four assists.

The junior varsity Squires fell to 7-6 with a 10-15, 15-7, 16-14 loss to Northfield. Kasie Zile provided 12 points for Manchester, while Lindsay Seagert had six.

Manchester, 6-16, hosts a 6:30 p.m. match with Southwood on Thursday.

Wawasee 4, Manchester 1

At Syracuse, the Wawasee Warrior tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak with a Tuesday win over the Squires.

In singles action, Wawasee No. 2 player Ryan Perzanowski beat Nate Little 6-3, 6-3, while Wawasee No. 3 player Steve Ummel beat Chris Hemmig 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, the Wawasee No. 1 doubles team of Jared Mahnensmith and Quyen Tran beat Derek Ring and Eric Swan 6-4, 6-1. Wawasee's No. 2 doubles team of Farhan Haq and Andy Cole beat Mitch Eads and Michael Good 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Manchester's Andy Parker won the No. 1 singles match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mark Leinbach.
