Tippy Valley Board Reorganizes

The Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. Board of Trustees elected officers for the 2003-04 school year Monday night.
Mark Wise was elected president, Hal Hoffman, vice president, and Rod Eaton secretary. The board also appointed Deb Baumgartner treasurer, Linda Murphy deputy treasurer, Dr. Francisco Negreros physician and Dave O'Brien president of the board of finance.
In other news, the board:
• Discussed the first reading of a new school board policy regarding the enrollment of homeless students. The policy is part of the federal "No Child Left Behind" legislation and allows for the cooperation of the school board in providing needed immunization, transportation and social services and enrolling the student while these are being worked out.
• Heard Assistant Superintendent Dr. Karen Boling's report that there has been no petition filed for a remonstrance of the Tippecanoe Valley High School building project and that architect Steve Park of Moake Park Group will proceed with plans for the project.
• Accepted a gift of $3000 to Akron Elementary School from the Kosciusko Community Hospital to continue its sponsorship of Viking Grand Slam Readers during the 2003-04 school year.
• Heard Superintendent Daniel Kramer's announcement that a budget workshop will be held Aug. 5 at the Mentone Elementary School public meeting room at 7:30 p.m.
• Approved a contract with Doug Heinold to serve as assistant athletic director at Tippecanoe Valley High School for the school year of 2003-04.
• Accepted the resignations of Mentone Elementary School teacher Kathy Ritter and custodians Sharon Ross and Eric Ross.
• Heard Daniel Kramer's financial report stating the corporation's accounts total to be $5,784,515.
The board's next regular meeting will be Aug. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mentone Elementary School Public Meeting Room, Mentone.
