Throughout April, a prescription drug savings card will be made available to any new subscriber who prepays for a six-month subscription.
The six-month subscription is being offered at a reduce rate of $50. That's a savings of up to $16 off our regular subscription rates.[[In-content Ad]]The same offer also is available to any subscriber who prepays for a six-month extension of their existing subscription.
Consider this our version of a "stimulus" for our readers. We hope the savings generated by this offer will help readers through these tough economic times, because those who take advantage will be able to realize significant savings on the purchase of prescription drugs.
And as a subscriber, Times-Union readers also will realize significant savings every day through many valuable coupons and discounts continually offered by advertisers in our newspaper.
The prescription savings cards are being offered through Agelity, a leader in the pharmacy benefit service industry.
Founded in 1999 by a diversified team of information technology, finance and pharmacy benefit professionals, Agelity's mission was to provide prescription drug relief to the nation's senior population. Hence the rather strange hybrid name of "age" and "agility" that forms the company name, Agelity. It didn't take long for Agelity to realize that the problem of high drug costs extended well beyond the senior demographic.
To provide this relief, Agelity has built the largest Pharmacy Drug Discount Network with well more than 56,000 participating pharmacies that offer some of the richest drug discounts in the industry.
These prescription drug savings cards allow prescription drug users to save money on all types of prescription medications. At the time of purchase, members simply present their card at participating pharmacies to instantly receive substantial discounts on their prescriptions.
The cards contain special computerized instructions that can be read by the pharmacy's computer, just like a credit or ATM card. When the card information is entered, the price on the prescription is discounted based on the pharmacy's agreement with Agelity.
Anyone with limited or no prescription drug coverage can benefit from a prescription drug savings card. If you have insurance, the card can discount medications that are not covered by health plans or reduce your co-pay. You may even find that it's less expensive to use the card instead of claiming certain prescriptions through your insurance. Card members can go online to cross-check the price at the pharmacy against the card price.
For example, the Walgreen's price for the blood-pressure medication Metoprolol is $71 for 90 50-mg pills. The card price is $26.48.
The card also can be especially useful to seniors enrolled in Medicare, since it is estimated up to 38 percent of Medicare recipients lack prescription drug coverage.
The card offers average savings of 15 percent on brand name drugs and 40 percent on generic drugs. The savings on generic drugs can be even greater if card members take advantage of Agelity's mail-order pharmacy.
Card members can go online at circup.agelity.com/circup to determine the discount available at their pharmacy and compare those prices to Agelity's mail-order prices.
The card is valid at thousands of locations nationwide. All chain pharmacies and most independent pharmacies have been given equal opportunity to join the program. Additional pharmacies are always being recruited, and Agelity's pharmacy directory is continually updated.
Card members can use the location tool on circup.agelity.com/circup to locate participating pharmacies. If your pharmacy is not participating - virtually all pharmacies in Kosciusko County are - simply have the pharmacist call the help desk number on the back of your card to enroll.
Use of the card is unlimited and it will remain active as long as you are a subscriber to the Times-Union. It can be used by anyone in the household.
We encourage new and existing subscribers alike to take advantage of the valuable discounts available through this offer.
