Coming into Friday night's football game against 0-2 Gary Wallace, Warsaw Tiger football coach Phil Jensen looked to use all of his players against an inexperienced Gary Lew Wallace team. The Tigers defeated the Hornets 54-0 last year and figured to be in another situation to make it another route. After Gary Lew Wallace arrived to Fisher Field 30 minutes late, it didn't seem to faze the host.

After using the mercy rule in the second quarter and cutting the third and fourth quarters to only six minutes, the Tigers went on to crush the Hornets 48-0 to move to 3-1 on the season. The Tigers have outscored the Hornets 102-0 the past two years.

"I am really pleased because we got all of our kids in the game,' Jensen said. "It was really exciting for our younger kids tonight to actually get some varsity minutes.'

The Tigers were playing without some of their key offensive players -Êquarterback Jared Scrafton and running back Brad Seiss - but they didn't need those guys in this contest. Jensen stated that it was time for other Tigers to step it up.

"I told the players that we need to be thankful for what we have,' Jensen added. "It was another challenge for us tonight but our kids did a good job of focusing on the task at hand.'

The Tigers opened the game with a seven-play, 61-yard drive that finished on a Grady Randall 3-yard touchdown run with 7:47 to play. Adam Sisson's extra point was blocked, leaving the Tigers with a 6-0 early lead.

The first possession for Gary Lew Wallace wasn't spectacular. The Hornets ended up with a 4-yard punt that gave the Tigers great field position at its 24-yard line.

On their second possession, the Tigers scored on three plays that resulted in a Stanton Moore 1-yard run. Sophomore quarterback Ryan DeGeeter ran the two-point conversion in giving the Tigers a 14-0 lead with 4:13 left in the first.

"We just got back to the basics tonight,' Jensen said. "We basically ran the ball hard and had a couple nice play-action passes that worked well.'

The Hornets then served up a fumble with 2:12 left, setting up another Warsaw score. On third-and-goal from the eight, Adam Sisson took a reverse handoff that resulted in another Tiger score that upped the lead to 20-0. Sisson's extra point failed.

"It's really tough to prepare for a team like Gary Lew Wallace,' Jensen added. "I take my hat off to them. They looked better this year than they showed us last year.'

In the second quarter, the officials put into play the mercy rule. The clock continued to run on all plays. It didn't seem to bother the Tigers, as they scored 14 more points to up the lead to 34-0 at half. A Hornet fumble and interception set up Jarod Leasure's 15-yard touchdown run. Sisson's extra point was good. At the end of the quarter, DeGeeter found Craige Westover in the end zone to make it 33-0. Sisson's extra point was successful ending the quarter at 34-0.

"A lot of our kids confidence rose with this game tonight,' Jensen added. "It was nice to see them contribute to a win.'

In the first half, the Hornets had 14 plays and had minus three total yards. The Tigers had 22 plays and 145 total yards.

The second half was basically one quarter of play. The third and fourth quarters were only played for six minutes instead of the normal 12, thus the Tigers really won in three quarters of work.

Ben Kreinbrink scored on a 25-yard run with 2:34 left in the third quarter for the Tigers. Sisson's extra point again failed, giving Warsaw a 40-0 lead. On Gary Lew Wallace's second play from scrimmage in the third, Billy Sale intercepted a pass that set up another Tiger score.

This time Jake Engler took the handoff from three yards out to make it 46-0. Ross Parker then hit Engler on the two-point conversion to end the onslaught for the Tigers at 48-0.

"We needed to work on fundamentals tonight and we accomplished that,' Jensen said. "We have been through a lot this year and this is just another hurdle.'
