Tigers' Season Ends At Regional

HUNTINGTON - At La Fontaine Golf Club, Warsaw's golf season came to an end at Monday's regional.
Bishop Dwenger fired a 339 to win the regional and was followed by Carroll (Allen) with a 348 and Fort Wayne Snider with a 353. Warsaw placed seventh out of nine teams with a 392.
Dwenger's Kasey Grant turned in the best score of the day, firing a 70 on the par 72 course. Sophomore Ashley Cooper shot a 94 to lead the Tigers, and she was followed by Amy Landis with a 97, Tricia Suchecki with a 100, Julie Arnold with a 101 and Brooke Westover with a 109.
In the individual portion of the tournament - girls who advanced to the regional while their team did not - Leo's Jessica Mote shot an 82 to win. Wawasee's Kari Wortinger advanced from the sectional to the regional, and she shot a 90. Tippecanoe Valley's Kara Tucker advanced, and she shot a 94. Also advancing was Manchester's Heidi Wieland, who shot a 108. Wortinger, Tucker and Wieland will not advance to the state tournament.
Columbia City's Kim Brookes had the highlight of the day as she made a hole-in-one on the 14th hole. She finished with a 95.
Warsaw finished the season with a 12-4 record.

Warsaw bounced back to beat Southwood 15-13, 15-7. Estep had nine kills and eight digs, while Calhoun had six kills and nine digs. Jahna Swanson had seven digs and two aces.
Warsaw's junior varsity team won both of its matches. The Tigers beat Southwood 15-13, 15-5. Tiffany Thomas had six kills. The Tigers beat Penn 10-15, 15-11, 15-11. Jessica Habegger had seven kills, while Liz Owens had 10 points.

At South Bend, the Triton volleyball team went 3-1 in Saturday's LaSalle Tournament.
Triton beat LaSalle 18-16, 15-0; beat New Prairie 15-2, 15-11; and beat LaVille 15-1, 15-4.
The Trojans then met Michigan City Marquette in the championship match, and Marquette won 15-5, 15-11.
Triton's leading attackers on the day were Chris Scott, who finished with 20 kills, and Jena Weissert, who finished with 18 kills. Triton's top server was Megan Sarber, who was 35-for-39 with nine aces. Chris Scott was 29-for-29 with five aces, while Holly Hepler was 29-for-30 with five aces.
Heather Barron had 34 assists, and Hepler added 27.
Triton, 17-4, has a match at 6:30 this evening with Bremen.

At New Carlisle, Triton's junior varsity football team scored 20 points in the first half as the Trojans went on to beat New Prairie on Saturday.
Two Triton running backs, Andy Price and Nate Setser, combined to rush for 122 yards. Price had 70 yards on 12 carries, while Setser had 52 yards on six carries.
Setser scored Triton's first touchdown on a 38-yard run. Price came through for the two-point conversion. Price added Triton's second touchdown on a three-yard run.
Tad Hayes scored Triton's other touchdown when he returned an interception 93 yards.

Andria Parker was Valley's leading attacker with nine kills. Brandy Manns had five blocks. Rhonda Doud had nine service points, including one ace. Emily Cripe had three service points. Deb Burch delivered four assists, while Doud had two.
Valley's junior varsity team improved to 5-8 by winning 15-7, 15-11 over Oak Hill.
Valley's varsity team is 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the TRC.

At South Whitley, the Columbia City volleyball team beat Whitko 15-2, 15-12 on Monday.
Shana Miner and Kayce Moore led Whitko with three kills each. Jamie Brown had seven assists, while Kelly Osborn had four. Brigitte Goble and Brittany Waybright had seven digs each.
Whitko's junior varsity team lost 8-15, 15-4, 16-14, while the Wildcat freshman team lost 15-6, 16-14.
Whitko competes in the Northridge Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.

At Goshen, Wawasee's volleyball team beat Fairfield 15-8, 12-15, 15-8 on Monday.
Kara Mathew was 24-for-24 serving with 19 service points for the Warriors. She also had 10 assists. Lydia Carpenter had three blocks and nine kills, while Theresa Lundin led with seven digs. The varsity Warriors are 13-11.
Wawasee's junior varsity team hammered Fairfield 15-3, 15-1 to improve to 5-5. Laura Lundin had five kills, while Kim Troup had three kills for the Warriors. Jaime Conn had two kills and three aces. Kara Price had eight assists and five aces, while Christy McGowen also had five aces.

At Rochester, the Manchester tennis team had an easy time with the Zebras as the Squires won 5-0.
Andy Parker, Nate Little and Chris Hemmig picked up singles wins for the Squires. Derek Ring and Eric Swan won the No. 1 doubles match, while Mitch Eads and Michael Good won the No. 2 doubles match. The varsity Squires are 5-6.
Manchester won the junior varsity match 5-0. Mark Gathany, Josh Schmucker and Matt Purdy were singles winners. Brad Keffaber and Todd Shumaker won a doubles match, as did Gathany and Ben Ireland.

At Mentone, Bremen's tennis team dropped Tippecanoe Valley to 6-2 with a Monday win.
Valley's only win came from the No. 1 singles team of Jay Dee Parker and Mike Parker, who remain undefeated on the season. They beat Ryan Hunt and Nick Witwer 6-4, 7-5.
Bremen won the junior varsity match 4-1. Jason Miller had Valley's only win, as he beat Alex Kiel 9-7 in the No. 2 singles match. The junior varsity Vikings are 5-3.
The varsity Vikings are 2-0 in the TRC.

At New Carlisle, Triton's junior varsity football team scored 20 points in the first half as the Trojans went on to beat New Prairie on Saturday.
Two Triton running backs, Andy Price and Nate Setser, combined to rush for 122 yards. Price had 70 yards on 12 carries, while Setser had 52 yards on six carries.
Setser scored Triton's first touchdown on a 38-yard run. Price came through for the two-point conversion. Price added Triton's second touchdown on a three-yard run.
Tad Hayes scored Triton's other touchdown when he returned an interception 93 yards.
Triton has a 6 p.m. game at Caston on Monday.

One day after the Wawasee Warrior varsity football team lost to Plymouth 35-6, the junior varsity team lost 36-6 Saturday morning.
Wawasee's junior varsity team has a 10 a.m. game at Warsaw next Saturday.

At Rochester, the Zebra freshman football team beat the Squires on Monday.
Isaac Gibson scored Manchester's only touchdown on a one-yard quarterback sneak.

Oak Hill 6
At Mentone, the Tippecanoe Valley freshman football team beat Oak Hill on Thursday. All scoring took place in the first quarter.
Valley's only touchdown came on a Nathan Patterson punt return. Valley had 165 total yards, 123 rushing and 42 passing. Patterson led Valley with 71 rushing yards on seven carries. Craig Kuhn completed 2-of-3 passes for 32 yards. He completed a 19-yard pass to Derek Domenico and a 13-yard pass to Patterson.
Valley has a 6:30 p.m. game at Rochester on Thursday.

At New Carlisle, Triton quarterback Rob Salyer connected with Kenny Miller on a 65-yard touchdown pass, but the Trojans still lost to New Prairie on Saturday.
Brandon Zeider and Shane Poisel led Triton's defense with eight tackles each.
