One night after Warsaw's boys track meet with Penn was postponed due to weather, the temperatures were equally frigid, but things were about as hot as they could be going into Wednesday's final event.

After 15 events the Tigers clung to a slim 65-62 lead. The scenario: Whoever won the 1600 relay would win the meet. And with a time of 3:34.23, Warsaw's quartet of Adam Sisson, Nate Ridderman, Rob Peters and Greg Seiss solidfied the 70-62 victory.

"That's fun," said Warsaw coach Troy Akers of the tightness of the meet. "We haven't been in that situation in a while. We have a lot of experience with some kids, especially in that last relay. They have a lot of confidence and I have a lot of confidence in them. It's great to see Greg Seiss back out on the track."

Seiss, who just finished his senior basketball season, anchored the 1600 relay team, as well as taking first in the 400 with a time of 51.9 seconds, and finishing second in the 200 with a time of 23.9 seconds.

The Tigers, now 2-0 on the season, have won 21 consecutive dual meets.

In all, Warsaw took first in eight events, second in eight events and third in nine events.

While the Tigers kept their win streak alive as a team, junior Jarod Leasure saw his regular season dominance in the discus come to a close with his second-place finish. Leasure's throw of 143'8" was outdistanced by a throw of 152-7 by Penn's Brent Geiger. Coming in Leasure had placed first in every regular season dual meet of his prep career.

"He's gonna be there," said Warsaw throwing coach Gary Fribley of Leasure. "Our No. 1 goal is to get to Indianapolis (state finals). He's on schedule. He (Penn's Geiger) went to state last year. He's tough. We're not disappointed. We get to face him three more times. When somebody throws 150 to 160 in this weather that's scary."

Geiger also took first in the shot put with a throw of 47-2. Leasure finished second with a throw of 43-6. Warsaw's Brent Satterly placed third in the shot put.

The Tigers swept two events, placing first, second in third in the long jump and 400.

Tiger senior Aaron Chabot, last year's Northern Lakes Confernce champion in the 100, took first in the long jump with a jump of 20-4; sophomore Adam Bott was second with an 18-8 and Micah Seisenop was third with an 18-4.

Complimenting Seiss's winning time in the 400 for the Tigers were Peters (2nd, :53.3) and Kris Hueber (3rd, :53.8)

"We got a lot of key seconds and thirds," said Akers.

Other first-place finishers for the Tigers were Ryan Hill (110 hurdles), Nate Ridderman (800), Jacob Fitzsimmons (high jump), Cory Gackenheimer (pole vault) and the 3200 relay team of Ridderman, Darrin Fawley, Peters and Jon Dock.

"Nate Ridderman had an all around excellent night," said Akers. "Ridderman, Dock, Fawley and Rob Peters, those kids had an excellent time (8:19) for this time of the year."

Warsaw will now be off until April 11 when it travels to Northern Lakes Conference rival Plymouth.

"We have some talent but this doesn't appear to be the most talented team," said Akers. "But by competitiveness and work ethic things are going to be interesting. Spring break either makes or breaks a season. We have to have a good week during spring break."
