Warsaw varsity boys soccer coach Scott Bauer, in his second year with the Tigers, said he found himself in a different position after Thursday's 4-0 home loss to Northern Lakes Conference rival Concord.

So the blonde-haired coach took a half hour after the game to talk to his players about it.

"I want them to remember the things that hurt us," Bauer said. "There are a lot of fundamentals we didn't do tonight. I want them to remember that."

Bauer will remember this one, his first NLC loss as coach of the Tigers, who were 3-0-3 in the conference during his first year.

The loss drops Warsaw's season record to 1-1-2.

The Minutemen scored their first goal of the game with 22:17 on the first-period clock. Senior Adam Garner put Concord up 2-0 with 15:02 remaining in the first period. Sophomore Adrian Conrad scored Concord's third goal of the first period with a minute remaining in first-period play.

The Tigers went to the break trailing 3-0.

"I told the kids to play the system we've done in practice," Bauer said of what he told his kids at halftime. "I told them we had to transition from offense to defense better. We did a poor job on transition. We reacted to everything they did. I really challenged them to stay with their marks defensively. They (Concord) had midfielders and backs flooding us all day long. That's done with will and desire."

The Tigers came out more aggressive in the second half, but still couldn't land the ball in the net. Junior Mark Kauffman scored Concord's fourth and final goal with 19:05 remaining in regulation.

"They (Concord) took advantage our our lack of organization defensively," Bauer said. "They took advantage of our marks defensively from midfield. They're a well-skilled team. They had good ball skills and a good design. They were quicker."

The loss also drops the Tigers to 0-1 in the NLC.

"Last year Concord was one of the better teams we faced all year, and we came away with a draw," Bauer said. "But then they fell apart. They finished fourth, and we were second. They had some internal dissention. I don't see them falling apart this year. It'll take a pretty big upset."

Concord took 13 shots in the contest, while the Tigers managed just five.

The Tigers will host Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Saturday at 10 a.m. at the CCAC.

Warsaw's junior varsity team upped its overall season record to 3-0 with a 3-1 win over the Minutemen. Warsaw got goals from sophomores Kirk Burnett and Kyle Burnett and freshman Andrew Sawyer. Sophomores Nathan Stull and Aaron Wishart tallied assists for the Tigers. The JV team will host Luers Saturday as well.
