DUNLAP - A piece of paper with statistics on it didn't give Warsaw's boys basketball team a win over Northern Lakes Conference rival Concord Friday, but it did tell Tiger mentor Al Rhodes just how, in this case how bad, his team was playing after two quarters.

Rhodes said he gets stats on a piece of paper at halftime that tells him how many points per possession his team is averaging. Last night Warsaw trailed 19-15 at halftime. Rhodes said he didn't remember if this was the lowest halftime score he's seen, but Warsaw's .43 points per posession was a low.

"In my opinion, with the absence of Steve (Siebenmorgen), everyone tried too hard," said Rhodes.

Siebenmorgen, who suffered his second concussion this season, watched the game from the bench for the second consecutive game. Rhodes said he will be evaluated on Tuesday.

The Tigers, who edged the Minutemen 42-39, shot 6 of 21 (28.6 percent) from the field in the first half Friday. Concord wasn't much better with a 7-of-23 (30.4 percent) performance.

The win improves Warsaw's overall record to 10-3. The Tigers are now 3-2 in the NLC. Concord drops to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Warsaw led 11-8 after the opening frame but struggled in the second stanza. The Tigers were a dismal 1 of 7 from the field and 2 of 4 from the charity stripe in the second quarter. Concord outscored Warsaw 11-4 in the frame, with all of Warsaw's offense coming from junior Josh Buck.

Buck, who started in the absence of Siebenmorgen, finished the game with eight points. Warsaw was led by senior Chris Wiggins, who scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Wiggins also pulled down seven rebounds. Brad Seiss and Zach Nelson, both starters, added eight and seven points, respectively, in the win.

Concord was led by 6-foot-9 sophomore John Morningstar's 12 points. Morningstar also pulled down 11 boards. The Minutemen got seven points from Tom Martin and six points each from Brant Fowler and Josh Staley.

After trailing by four at halftime, Warsaw kept the game the close in the third quarter. Seiss made good on a field goal attempt with 3:50 remaining in the third, pulling the Tigers within two, 24-22. Wiggins hit one of his two three-pointers at the 3:01 mark of the third, giving Warsaw a 25-24 lead. The score was tied at 29 going into the final frame.

"I was proud of the way the guys came back and battled in the third quarter," said Rhodes. "Eventually we came back and took control of the game."

Warsaw opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run, giving it a 36-29 lead. Wiggins scored five points during the run and made a steal that led to a Trent Martin basket.

Morningstar made good on a field goal attempt with 3:28 remaining in the game to cut Warsaw's lead to five, 38-33. Four seconds later he connected on another attempt, bringing the Minutemen within three.

Wiggins hit two free throws with 41 seconds remaining in the game, giving Warsaw a 42-37 lead at that point. Morningstar got a rebound and hit a field goal with 20 seconds remaining to bring Concord within three, 42-39.

After Morningstar's free throws, the Tigers inbounded the ball but Trent Martin bobbled the ball out of bounds, leaving 19 seconds for the Minutemen to attempt a shot.

Concord missed a shot, with the rebound going to the Tigers. After play resumed, Warsaw then ran the final two seconds off the clock, securing the three-point win.

"We wanted to go to Wiggins but they put two guys on him," said Rhodes of Martin's bobbled inbounds pass. "He (Martin) made a cut. He's one of our better free throw shooters. We pretty much got it where we wanted it to go. He just bobbled it."

The Tigers outscored Concord 14-10 in the third quarter and 13-10 in the fourth quarter. Warsaw was 4 of 4 from the field in the fourth quarter.

"Our execution on offense in the fourth quarter was better," said Rhodes. "#Wiggins hit a couple of shots that helped take control of the game. Then we went inside to (Paul) Finnegean and he got a bucket and then a feed to Nelson."

Warsaw (10-3, 3-2 NLC) will host Marion Friday. The Giants were ranked No. 1 in the latest Class 4A poll and third in the nation.

"Obviously we need to play a perfect game to beat them," said Rhodes. "They are ranked third in the nation and first in the state. They might move up with a win tonight (Friday). To have a chance at Marion we have to cut down turnovers and have strong rebounders."
