Tigers, Bruins Play To Scoreless Draw

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

The official season opener was last week, but in a way, Warsaw’s varsity boys soccer team started over Tuesday evening.
Hosting the Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins, the Class 2A No. 10 Tigers were without the services of two key players.
Brady Yeiter, a junior defender, is out with a broken leg, while a striker that coach Scott Bauer wouldn’t identify sat out because of “disciplinary reasons.”
Without a full squad, the Tigers played Northrop to a scoreless draw in a match that saw both teams put together scoring opportunities.
“We’re trying to find an indentity again,” said Bauer, whose team beat Class 1A No. 16 Argos 3-2 in its only other match this season. “We’re trying to find that identity with the loss of two players. Brady Yeiter has a broken leg, and one of my strikers is out for disciplinary reasons.”
The Bruins controlled possession the majority of the match, though Warsaw had eight shots to Northrop’s six.
“I think Northrop had plenty more chances, but I don’t think they had as many clear-cut chances as we did,” said Bauer. “We just didn’t have the foot to put it in. We made an adjustment in the last 15 minutes, and I thought we had some chances.”
Both Warsaw senior Peyton Long and Northrop junior Cameron Fox made key saves in goal to shutout the opposition.
Now 1-0-1 on the season, the Tigers open Northern Lakes Conference play at Plymouth Thursday.
“I think we can pull something together with this group,” said Bauer.
