Tiger Grapplers Fall Again

Warsaw wrestlers continue to struggle, losing Wednesday at NorthWood 44-30. The Tiger scoring came by way of a forfeit and five wins on the mat, three by falls and two by narrow decisions.
Winning matches for the Tigers were Anthony Boley (103 pounds), David Sumpter (140), Nick McKinley (152), Isaac Perry (160) and Richard Wolfe (171).
NorthWood's victories came convincingly with five falls, a technical fall and a solid decision.
Warsaw's Tanner Connealy (112) was pinned by senior Jesse Espinoza in 1:32. Espinoza, who is ranked No. 12 in the state, now boasts a 23-1 record. Warsaw's Chris Riley (119) was pinned by another senior, Nick Roelandts, in 1:15.ÊAdam Bott (130) scored a takedown but was outscored 7-4 by Brandon Garner.
Trenton Plummer (135) fought hard as he wrestled through nearly two periods before being overcome by Ben Lehman in an 18-3 technical fall (15-point margin) at 3:51. Micah Seisennop (145) was dispatched by Josh Metzler in 1:00 and Tyler Miller (189) was upended by Ben Murphy in 3:40. Chris Hoffer (215) was cradled by Jamie Garcia in 1:23.
At 103 pounds, Boley used his Greco-Roman skills to toss Brandon Wiley and score a pin in 44 seconds. Even NorthWood fans could be heard commenting on the "slick move."
A second victory for Warsaw came at 140 pounds against Josh Snyder. Sumpter was the victim of Snyder's deep single-leg shot.Ê Sumpter found himself hopping around on one leg for most of a minute before he was finally bundled up in a cradle by Snyder.Ê Sumpter squirmed and rolled and while still tied up in the cradle, he turned Snyder onto his back, scoring the fall at 1:31 for the Tigers.
McKinley (152) dominated E.J. Yehl in the first period, taking a 5-2 lead. Then after a bit of a setback in period two, McKinley seemed to lose confidence, and Yehl tied the score with an escape and a takedown. Some strong words from the Warsaw coaching staff put the fire back into McKinley, and he fought back with a reversal, a takedown, and a three-point nearfall to record a 12-7 victory. Perry (160) wasted no time, squashing Tim Golden in 22 seconds.
Richard Wolfe (171) battled hard against Neil Widmer to win a close 7-6 victory. Kris Hueber was forced to sit out the night due to illness, with Chris Hoffer filling in.
Joey Navarro was awarded a forfeit at 275.
The Tigers conclude their Northern Lakes Conference dual schedule with a 2-4 record. Warsaw hosts the conference tournament Saturday morning at the Tiger Den.
