Tiger Grapplers Compete In Super Dual

VALPARAISO - Warsaw's wrestlers traveled to Valparaiso for suprer dual competition, five dual meets in one day, Saturday.
The Tigers came away with three wins and two losses, defeating Gary West, Boone Grove, and Michigan City, but falling to Valparaiso and South Bend
Three Tiger individuals remained undefeated on the season, Justin Brooks (112 pounds), Matt Elvidge (140) and Andy Keener (152). In addition, Paul Thompson (130) had a perfect day at Valpo, while Adam Keener (145) and Steven Palladino (119) suffered just one loss.
The Tigers are giving up three forfeits in each match, with nobody to wrestle in the 160-pound and 171-pound matches and with Brandon Klosowski (103) recovering from an injury.
Tiger freshman, Brock Owen (125) nabbed his first win, pinning Gary West's Darion Dixon in 1:29. Senior rookie Sha Stuart (285) continues to grow and also collected his first win, coming out on top after a high-scoring minute of wrestling and nailing Malcomb Adams of Gary West in 1:05. As a team, the Tigers defeated Gary West 57-12.
At 145 pounds, Adam Keener's only loss came against an old nemesis, Austin Zosso of Valparaiso, who won 12-6 with the help of four takedowns, a couple of escapes and one reversal.
The Tigers came up with five falls in the 51-30 loss to Valpo. Brooks, Palladino, Thompson, Elvidge, and Andy Keener each rang up first-period pins.
The Tigers lost to South Bend Adams 44-36.
Warsaw's Andrew Spears got his second victory this season, as he stepped into the heavyweight division and scored a fall against Calveen Greely in 23 seconds. Paul Thompson blitzed Tevin Lake in 15 seconds and Adam Keener nailed Brandon Markovich in 20 seconds. Steven Palladino (119) suffered his only loss on the day when he was edged 9-6 by Mark Olson.
In his match against Boone Grove's Aleck Graham, the scrappy Palladino was down 13-4 in the third period but kept fighting and scored a reversal and wound up nailing his opponent to the mat at the 5:51 mark. The Tigers took the win over Boone Grove with a team score of 51-18.
The Tigers rolled over Michigan City 52-12, with one of the highlights being Paul Thompson's 21-7 thrashing of Garrett Payne.
The Tigers, with a 6-5 record overall will try to improve their 0-1 Northern Lakes Conference record when they host Plymouth Thursday in the Career Center Gym.
