The Warsaw Tigers have their work cut out for them Saturday at the Huntington North Regional Saturday.

Not only do they have to face Culver Girls Academy, a team that beat them in the regular season and in the sectional, they also must face three other state-ranked teams: Fort Wayne Snider, Huntington North and Marion.

Snider and Marion also posted top 10 scores in the sectional. Snider shot a 347 and Marion a 350 in their respective sectionals.

"Marion has four girls that average in the 70s," said Warsaw coach Bob Turner. "They are by far the best team at the regional. There are four top 20 teams there, so it will be a tough, competitive day."

Warsaw finished last in last year's Huntington North Regional.

The Huntington North Regional is one of three regionals in the state that will play host to four state-ranked teams, so how do the Tiger expect to play at Norwood Golf Course?

"Basically we are staying low- key," said Turner. "We have played CGA in the regular season, and we have seen Marion play. They are both good teams."

The Tigers are in the middle group of golfers that will tee off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Huntington North and East Noble will begin their regional runs with Warsaw.

"The girls are friends with the team from East Noble, so they are looking forward to golfing with them," said Turner. "Basically we will try to better our average and have fun on the course. We are being realistic about this match. We just want to play the way we know we can."

Norwood Golf Course, the site of the regional, is dry like many area courses. The dry conditions at Rozella Ford last week made for interesting competition in the Warsaw sectional.

"The course (Norwood) is very dry," said Turner. "There will be a lot of rolls, and the greens and the fairways will be fast. It's a little like Rozella Ford with the undulating and elevated greens. Rozella is a little softer right now, but we'll just play with it and see how things go.

"The team who wins will have to have a little bit of luck to earn good scores under the conditions."

Warsaw will have a change in the lineup this week.

Kacy Jones, who did not play in the sectional, will play in the regional for the Tigers. Lara Reed, who has improved her scores over the past few weeks and led the Tigers at the sectional with a 96, will be playing for the Warsaw squad as well.

"Lara is very competitive," said Turner. "She struggled a bit in early September, right about the time school started, but she has adapted to playing after school and is doing much better. Dave Huffman (golf pro at Rozella Ford) has worked with her as well, and she is playing better than she was earlier in the season."

Dorey Bungitak of Manchester and Jill VanBruaene of NorthWood will be joining the Tigers in Huntington for the regional after qualifying in the individual competition last week. Bungitak and VanBruaene will tee off at 9 a.m.
