According to Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine, a pickup hauling a flatbed trailer was northbound on Ind. 15, while a semi tractor/trailer loaded with tomatoes was southbound.

The driver of the pickup, Jack G. Chipps, 47, of Mishawaka, reportedly crossed the center line while reaching for a dropped cigarette. The semi driver, Larry Thomas, 63, of North CR 350W, Warsaw, attempted to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles sideswiped.

The impact sent both vehicles off the east side of the roadway, where Chipps' pickup flipped over. Thomas lost part of his load of tomatoes onto the highway before driving into a field.

Chipps suffered back and shoulder injuries in the accident and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. Thomas was treated at the scene by Multi-Township Emergency Services personnel for an unspecified injury. [[In-content Ad]]
