Threats Don't Halt Classes At Triton

Monday, an operation plan review meeting was held and chaired by Bourbon Police Chief John West and co-chaired by Laurie Lemler, Indiana State Police Dept. Law enforcement representatives from neighboring communities were in attendance and will assist with the threat to the school corporation, according to a press release issued by Triton.[[In-content Ad]]Parents, students and staff have been notified there will be school Wednesday.
According to the press release, "We have taken the necessary steps to have a safe educational environment. Law enforcement personnel have been present and will continue to remain on our premises to provide additional security measures for our staff and students. The community can feel secure in knowing that all law enforcement and emergency personnel are coordinating their efforts for the safety of our school district."
Only staff and students will be permitted on the campus Wednesday. According to the press release, members of the news media are not being allowed on site Wednesday. "This limits any form of distractions and permits law enforcement officers to protect the Triton students," the press release states.
West is providing the Matchett Senior Center as a staging area for the press. When information is available, a press conference will be held at that site.
At the Triton Junior-Senior High School Nov. 4, in the restroom, a threatening letter was found. It contained a reference to killing people Nov. 19. Parents were notified of the letter.
A subsequent message was found in the girl's bathroom referencing the Nov. 19 threat, and then another letter contained a bomb threat.
