Thomas Bernard Faris, 66, of 3497 W. CR 100S, Warsaw, died at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 8, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born March 9, 1944, in Warsaw, the only child of Bernard W. and Jane L. Hay Faris, both deceased. On Oct. 4, 2008, at the American Legion, Warsaw, he married his best friend, Cheryl A Schooley, who survives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Warsaw High School and attended Notre Dame College for two years for computer science. He was an active member of The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 49, Warsaw, until his illness in June 2010. He worked for Secor Sound Systems, Warsaw, from high school until he went to work for Word Inc., Winona Lake. After Word Inc., he worked at Warsaw Coil until he was forced into early retirement due to his health in 1999.

He enjoyed going to Salamonie Reservoir with his wife and best friends as often as possible and used to enjoy a game of golf with his other best friend as he was able. He had a pet Airdale named Irish, who was a constant joy and companion to him until he had to give her up. Irish passed away in 2010, but she was always in his heart.

Also surviving are three stepchildren: Scott (and spouse Karen) Wallis, Mentone; Pami (and spouse John) Finken, Winona Lake; and Bud (and spouse Kathy) Phillips, Palestine; 13 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; his loving aunt, Alpha Weirick, Warsaw; his father- and mother-in-law, Everett and Alice Kelly Schooley, Warsaw; and three sisters-in-law, Janice Cox, Tanya Heath and Sally (and spouse Steve) Kuhn, all of Warsaw.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 30 at American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, officiated by Ken Locke from the Salvation Army, Warsaw. Burial will be private.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
