This Is 'Rogue'?

My wife and I started reading "Going Rogue" by Sarah Palin, and wow do we all have a treat in store. We learned more about Alaska in the first 21 pages than we ever knew.

After our "reading and education session" this morning, I "cheated" and turned over to chapter five, on p. 341. This is what Sarah has on that page: "Back in the campaign season of 2004 some Alaskans had suggested that I challenge incumbent Lisa Murkowski in the U. S. Senate race. The seat was vulnerable because of the nepotism issue, and the GOP would have trouble holding on to it. As always, I polled my family. Everybody thought it was a decent idea, until I asked 'Track.' 'I don't want you to run for the U. S. Senate, Mom' said Track. 'Who would be our hockey manager?'

"It sounds trivial now, but ...who would be the hockey manager? At that point in his life, having an involved mom was more important to him - and to me - than having a mom with a powerful position in Washington, D.C. So it was a pretty easy decision not to run."

That was a question one Alaska "mom" had to decide in 2004.

But page 341 started out with a quote from Dave Barry. Dare I share that with you?

Here is what Dave wrote: "The Democrats seem to be basically nice people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisianart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club."

Those of you who know more about the entertainment world than I do may know what Dave meant, but a book many of us read called "The Bible" puts the value of human life at the very "top" of values. Those who have used "abortion" instead of the several civilized means of "birth control" have helped to bankrupt our world's greatest health care system. Since "Roe v. Wade," more than 5 million helpless humans murdered, already, and counting.

Decisions, decisions. Many of them are not easy, but the creator, God, holds us responsible for our decisions. Yes, it is important to take care of everyone of the children we bring into the world. But murdering the helpless fetus we produced?

Who are we trying to kid? It's time we give serious thought to our responsibility and our accountability. Why not? The all-wise God does.
