Donald Robert Purdy, 42, faces preliminary charges of possession of precursors, conversion and theft, after a loss-prevention employee at the Menards at 1000 Husky Trail reportedly watched him open and pocket lithium batteries while in the superstore.
According to Warsaw police, after Purdy hid the batteries, he went to the checkout lane with a bottle of drain cleaner and other unidentified items. When Purdy did not pay for the batteries, loss prevention associates moved in and led Purdy to a security office, where police were called.
When officers arrived, a K-9 sniffed Purdy’s vehicle in the parking lot and led police to an unopened box of pseudoephedrine and additional lithium batteries - each common meth-making components.
Purdy admitted to buying and stealing the items with the intention to make methamphetamine, police said.
Purdy is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 bond.[[In-content Ad]]
