Warsaw School Board approved the 2012-13 textbook rental charges at its meeting Monday night.

For kindergarten, total rental costs will be $112. First grade will cost $155; second grade, $152; third grade, $171; fourth grade, $172; fifth grade, $177; and sixth grade, $176.

Rental costs for the two middle schools and high school will vary depending on which courses students elect to take.

Chief Financial Officer Kevin Scott provided the school corporation budget timeline.

He will request permission from the school board to advertise the 2013 budget at its regular board meeting Aug. 27. It then will be published Aug. 28 and again Sept. 4.

A public hearing is set for the budget at 4 p.m. Sept. 7, with adoption set for the regular board meeting Sept. 17.

During its public work session July 17, the school board reviewed a request for the purchase of a financial software package to meet the operational demands of the business and human resource departments. Over the five-year agreement, the total cost of the package from New World Systems, from Troy, Mich., will be more than $400,000.

Total cost for the licensed  software solution, along with implementation cost, is $199,200. An optional module is an additional $8,400, while travel expenses are estimated at $15,000 for a total of $222,600, as reported in last week’s Times-Union.

Warsaw Community Schools  has a 2011 capital projects fund purchase order for $225,000 for the purchase, according to Scott. The purchase also requires hardware and related items at a cost of $96,725.27, which are budgeted and available in the 2012 CPF, he said.

“There is adequate funding for this project,” Scott said.

After some further discussion, the board unanimously approved the purchase.

In his superintendent’s report, Dr. Craig Hintz said WCS will begin the 2012-13 school year with an all-staff meeting Aug. 10 at 8 a.m. in the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center. School corporation employees of the year will be announced at that meeting.

Jennifer Tandy, school board president, said “Back To School Days” will be at each WCS school building Aug. 6 from noon to 6 p.m. and Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also, online registration is continuing for all students who are not yet registered.

First student day is Aug. 13.

The school board’s next public work session is Aug. 21 at 4 p.m., with the regular meeting set for 7 p.m. Aug. 27.[[In-content Ad]]
