By Staff Report-

Two teens were charged Tuesday night after allegedly stealing a vehicle earlier in the day from Warsaw, then fleeing from police.

Darren Glenn Fields, 17, of 415 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, is preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated, auto theft, fleeing law enforcement, public intoxication, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and criminal conversion.

Gabriel Raymond Fields, 17, of 3925 Meadowridge Drive, Warsaw, is preliminarily charged with criminal conversion, public intoxication, possession of marijuana and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

According to Warsaw Police Department reports, a pickup belonging to Rob Logan Gast of Warsaw was taken from a parking lot near the intersection of Washington and Market streets Tuesday evening. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside. The report of the theft was made at 5:58 p.m.

About 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cpl. Steve Rockey was southbound on Fox Farm Road when a pickup matching the description of the stolen vehicle passed him northbound, reportedly at a high rate of speed. Rockey turned around to pursue the vehicle and caught up with it at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 150W, where he activated his emergency lights and siren. However, the driver of the vehicle allegedly continued, crossing U.S. 30 at nearly 100 mph. At about CR 300N, the lights to the truck were reportedly shut off, with the pickup continuing travel. The vehicle went eastbound on CR 400N for about a mile before the driver stopped.

Darren Fields reportedly was the driver of the vehicle and police had him turn the vehicle off and throw the keys out the window before he and his passenger, Gabriel Fields, were ordered to get out of the pickup and lie on the ground.

Police reportedly found a plastic bag containing marijuana on the passenger side floorboard and, when the vehicle was returned to Gast, there reportedly was $100 missing from inside.

Portable breath tests recorded blood-alcohol levels of .084 percent for Darren Fields and .105 percent for Gabriel Fields.

Both were released to parental custody after the incident. [[In-content Ad]]
