A Warsaw teen is in jail for punching a Winona Lake police officer at the Wagon Wheel Theatre Saturday night.

Gladiator Elite Cage Fighting was holding an event at the Wagon Wheel Saturday night.

Seth Allen, 18, of 897 Oakbrook Place, Warsaw, was allegedly at the venue and had on a bracelet that allowed him to purchase alcohol.

Two uniformed Winona Lake police officers, Paul Heaton and Joe Bumbaugh, were at the event to watch a fellow officer compete.

As the two officers were leaving the venue, a woman approached them and said that she knew Allen wasn't old enough to buy alcohol as he was a classmate of her sons at Warsaw Community High School.

When Heaton and Bumbaugh approached Allen they asked for identification. According to police, at that point Allen became uncooperative and said he had no ID on him.

Warsaw Police Department Detective Brian Sherwin, who was off duty but working for a security company for the event, approached Allen and tapped him as he noticed a wallet in his back pocket.

Allen allegedly turned to Sherwin and made a defensive move, at which point Heaton and Bumbaugh attempted to restrain Allen.

The scuffle continued, at which point Allen allegedly kneed Bumbaugh and punched him twice in the face.

Allen was booked into Kosciusko County Jail Saturday night on charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication, possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Justin Bryant Risner, 23, of 201 W. Section St., Claypool, was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication for allegedly attempting to become involved in the fight.

Allen was charged with battery at 11 p.m. Monday night and held on $200,000 bond.

Allen is still at the county jail.[[In-content Ad]]
