By Staff Report-

SIDNEY - A North Manchester teen escaped injury Thursday afternoon when the car she was driving collided with a train.

Dawn M. Bishop, 16, of East Third Street, was northbound on CR 400E about 3:10 p.m. when the accident occurred near Sidney. Bishop told police that she didn't see the train on the north track at the crossing because of another train stopped on the south track.

She started across the tracks when her car collided with the lead engine of the eastbound train. The conductor of the Norfolk & Southern Railroad train, Jason Hutson of Fort Wayne, told a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputy that he could see between the cars of the stopped train that Bishop's car was approaching the crossing. When he looked back, Hutson said, he saw car parts flying everywhere.

Damage to Bishop's car was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000. [[In-content Ad]]
