SYRACUSE - The Syracuse Town Council used its November meeting to deal with insurance issues and hear updates on town projects.

The previously discussed Technical Services tax abatement received council approval for CF-1 status.[[In-content Ad]]This designates Technical Services to be declared an economic revitalization area, and allows the company to go ahead with plans to erect two smaller buildings on their property, upgrade equipment, and eventually hire additional staff.

Chris Cotton of Hall and Marose Insurance Agency, Warsaw, presented council with the health insurance renewal proposal for town employees. The town's plan is with Physician's Health Plan. According to Cotton, due to where the market is at this time, he did not recommend that council shop around for another insurance carrier. Council approved the insurance renewal as presented.

Josh Weaver of Wightman-Petrie gave a brief update regarding the progress on the proposed industrial park. According to Weaver, the contractor hired for the lift stations in the project is in the process of obtaining all needed equipment. Changes that have been made in the plans are also being finalized, and council will receive further updates at the next meeting.

In a related issue, town manager Henry DeJulia said the economic development grant of $2,100,000 needed to complete the water and waste water extensions to the industrial park is moving through the award process, and will be considered in the next round of grants.

The fourth annual "Deck The Halls" will run through Saturday, in conjunction with the Holiday Magic event. Local businesses and groups will be asked to decorate a Christmas tree or wreath which will be displayed and then put up as part of a silent auction. There will be events at Veterans Memorial Park, and carriage rides from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., starting at the community center, on Saturday.

Lakeland Learning Center will be doing its Christmas program at Veterans Memorial Park at Crosson Mill, Dec. 21.

On Nov. 28, police and fire department personnel will host an under-21 dance at the community center, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is a canned food item for the local food bank.

In financial matters, council approved payment of claims for November in the amount of $306,655,34. The 2010 water department budget of $897,510, and the 2010 wastewater budget of $935,550 also were approved.

Public works was approved to purchase 10 trees from Pine Nursery as part of the fall planting program, for $1,280, and signs from Allied Supplies for $813.09. Also approved was $840 to have Municipal Code Corp. incorporate new town ordinances in the Syracuse Town Code Book.

Council approved giving the town's tornado warning siren over to the fire territory, with the understanding that the territory provide all maintenance and related costs.
