Teacher Pay

I just watched a show today that had a teacher on their show, that was working for free, because of budget cuts in her school system left them with just a few teachers and no support help.

This is crazy. I can’t believe in this, our United States, that we can’t pay every single teacher that works their butts off to make our children learn and help grow our small citizens into adults who choose the right path in life.

Some people just don’t understand how important teachers, support staff, everyone who is involved with teaching our children the right path in life is.

Why, in these United States, does this have to happen? Why are we sending millions and millions of dollars overseas, and to countries that are threatening to blow us to smithereens, when we have needs here in this country that need addressing?

I know I’m just a peon in this big spinning world, and what I think doesn’t mean squat to many, but, being a mother of three and a son who is handicapped, and a grandmother of four, I look back at how many teachers touched me in ways I still remember to this day, teachers who helped my sons become responsible workers in this community, who took the time to tutor my daughter, and help her make something out of her life. And then I hear that teachers in a school are working for free because we as a society won’t step up and speak up for all those people who take our children, and mold them into adults that we can be proud of.

As a parent I realized a long time ago, that I can’t do it all on my own, and as teachers know, they can’t do it all on their own, but as we all know, some parents depend on teachers a lot more than they are compensated for.

So as I see articles in our Times-Union about our teachers and support staff not being paid what they are actually worth, it makes me very mad. They deserve to be paid well for all their sacrifices, and I know there are many that people don’t realize what teachers really put forth in teaching our children.

It’s really sad that “professional” sports people get paid millions, some people get paid more money for sitting on their butts and swindling money from other companies, and some people just don’t give a damn if they become something in life, but the teachers, they get the raw end of the deal for working and working and working some more, for what? Just to maybe, someday, be told, “We can’t afford to pay you anymore.”

What a sad world we live in.

I personally say thank you to all teachers, support staff and everyone involved in making children responsible adults in this tough world. Although some fall through the cracks, there are more success stories than failers, the way I see it.
