July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

Hoosiers for Conservative Senate have finalized plans for Indiana’s first TEA Party Convention on September 24.

It will be at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts in downtown Greenfield, announced Hoosiers for Conservative Senate co-chairs Monica Boyer and Greg Fettig.

The HJ Ricks Centre for the Arts is a former 1946 Art Deco/Art Modern style movie house, situated in Greenfield near the intersection of U.S. 40 and Ind. 9.

Boyer said that both senate candidates have been invited to participate in a questionnaire process.

Richard Mourdock has  agreed to participate in the process, but Senator Richard Lugar has not responded to the invitation.

The convention will kick off at 10 a.m., and will feature a straw poll on the 2012 GOP Primary race for the U.S. Senate seat from Indiana.

HFCS district representatives will issue an endorsement that day, in the Senate race, based on the results from the straw poll.

“TEA party leaders gave us a mandate in January to create the mechanism, or process, where the TEA party groups in Indiana can meet, after vetting the candidates in the primary race for U.S. Senator,” Boyer said. “We are so excited about this historical day as we watch TEA partyers link arms to elect a conservative senator.”

Boyer explained that leaders of Indiana’s Taxed Enough Already and Liberty groups will meet in a convention style format and participate in a Straw Poll after which the HFCS District Representatives will officially endorse the candidate based on the results of the straw poll.

Groups across Indiana have worked hard this summer educating Hoosiers about each candidate, Boyer said.

A statewide rally will follow immediately after the convention at the Hancock County Courthouse lawn.

The public is invited to attend the rally and hear the TEA Party’s candidate of choice.[[In-content Ad]]
