Tax Abatement

While it is welcome news that Martin's Supermarket is going to build a store in Warsaw, the tax abatement recently given to this company is wrong and unfair. I would imagine that Martin's has done due diligence when deciding the economic justification of opening this grocery store in the community. Granting this retail operation a tax abatement is simply another example of corporate welfare.
It is especially unfair to all the small businesses facing significant financial risk especially in these difficult times which do not receive the benefit of a government tax abatement. Our government leaders should use tax abatements sparingly with a great deal of thoughtful deliberation to make sure that the playing field is level for all businesses.
