He was born April 9, 1931, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Melvin and Lora Wright Allen.
He lived most of his life in Warsaw. He attended Ohio College, studying chemistry before joining the U.S. Army in 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict where he was a Prisoner of War for 44 months, and received many medals. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He eventually retired from the Army and was honorably discharged. He then worked for Dalton Foundry from 1963-1980. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a former member of the American Legion Post 49, Warsaw. He also was a former member of the Eagles Lodge and the D.A.V.
Surviving are two sons, Mark (and spouse Missy) Allen, Warsaw, and Mike Wills, Paintsville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, with Pastor William Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors.
Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
