Syracuse's Doc Miller Named Entrepreneur Of The Year

SYRACUSE - Gary and Barbara Miller, proprietors of Doc Miller's Fish and Seafood, were awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce Thursday at the annual chamber dinner.
The award goes to a local business which has demonstrated outstanding growth and commitment to the community and to those who have given their time and energies to help make the community a better place to live, work and play.
The growth and commitment award was presented by chamber president Tim Yeager to Tom and Judy VanMeter of VanMeter Jewelry. Lake City Bank, Syracuse, was presented with a community service award.
Retiring board members were also recognized for their service. Recognized were Susie Johnson of Key Bank and Gene Hill of Pizza Hut.
Certificates were also presented to various people for the service and commitment they have provided to the community.
The chamber presented a certificate to Kip Schumm in gratitude for his "unceasing efforts to light the way in the Syracuse-Wawasee community by providing leadership and commitment to the Syracuse street lighting project and the replacement of the town's winter holiday decorations."
Syracuse councilman Bill Cutter was recognized for his "willingness ... to initiate and support programs to make the community a safe and ideal place." A certificate for "strength of leadership and willingness to find ways to meet community needs" was presented to councilman Barbara Carwile.
Bill Beemer was recognized by the chamber for "his dogged determination to protect and enhance (the) quality of life and to truly make the Syracuse-Wawasee community a safe, ideal place in which to live, work, shop and play."
The annual dinner was held at South Shore Golf Course, Syracuse, at 6 p.m. Keynote speaker was Brad Gerstner, assistant to the Indiana secretary of state. [[In-content Ad]]
