Syracuse OKs Police Vehicle Purchase

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse Town Council swore in re-elected members Larry Siegel and Paul Stoelting and then approved the purchase of a new vehicle for the police department at its monthly meeting Tuesday.
Syracuse Police Chief Tony Ciriello asked for approval to purchase a Charger from Sorg Dodge to replace one of the department’s vehicles.
After comparing bids, Ciriello decided on the Charger versus purchasing another SUV. He said the charger has all-wheel drive and a majority of the vehicle equipment will fit on the new one. New light brackets and a center console will still need to be purchased.
The board approved Ciriello’s request to purchase the Charger for $27,356. Ciriello is placing the order today with an estimated delivery of six to eight weeks. He said the police department plans to sell its current vehicle.
Ciriello also discussed upcoming events for the police department.
On Friday, three officers will travel to help guide buses to the Shrine Circus. There will be 2,679 third- and fourth-grade students and teachers traveling this year. Due to bad weather in 2014, the field trip was canceled so this year all the students who missed out last year also will get to attend Friday.
“They all get to go this year,” Ciriello said. “It should be a good time.”
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Chad Jonsson announced activities planned for WinterFest. The event will take place the weekend of Jan. 30 and 31.
The Kiwanis will have their soup supper on Friday, and then Saturday they will hold snowmobile races, pending on the ice conditions. There also will be an ice sculpture demonstration, polar plunge and evening ice-skating with live entertainment at Oakwood Resort.
The next regular meeting for the Syracuse Town Council is Feb. 17.[[In-content Ad]]
