Sylvia L. Howard, 80, of North Manchester, died at 11:58 p.m. Feb. 27, 2011, in her residence.

She was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Kosciusko County, to George Henry and Sylvia Rose Vandermark Young. On Sept. 15, 1952, she married Sammie Howard Jr., who survives.

She was a homemaker and retired from General Tire, Wabash, after 31-1/2 years. She attended North Manchester Missionary Church. She was a Chester High School graduate.

Surviving are a son, Sammie E. (and spouse Sharon K.) Howard, Gladwin, Mich.; four daughters: Sue E. Howard, Rita M. Howard (and Steve McClure), Pamela K. Howard and Sheila (and spouse Mark) Hann, all of North Manchester; two sisters, Beulah (and spouse Arden) Badskey, South Whitley, and Dora Fisher, Adelaide, Australia; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, with Pastor Dan Binkley officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
