Phil and Bev Surface of Broadway Street, Mentone, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Phil and the former Bev Smith were married March 4, 1961, in the Wesleyan Church, Edgerton, by Phil's grandparents, the Revs. Rose and Earl Surface. Alice and Hube Kiern, the sister and brother-in-law of the groom, were the matron of honor and the best man. After the ceremony, the couple honeymooned in Fort Wayne.

Phil is a retired shift foreman at Kimble Glass, formerly of Warsaw. Bev helped to develop the Jack and Jill Preschool, Mentone. In retirement, the couple watch their grandchildren play sports, play with their great-grandchildren and visit with friends in Texas. Phil also enjoys farming, while Bev is always making beautiful jewelry for the rest of the family to wear.

The couple have four children: Sharon (and spouse Chris) Kindig, Warsaw; Laurie (and spouse Harold) Carlin, Mentone; Teresa (and spouse Peter) Jones, Clinton, N. Y.; and the late Bobby; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren and two on the way.

They will mark their golden anniversary with a cruise.
