Editor, Times-Union:
As a lifetime Winona Lake resident, active community member, and local business owner, I am especially interested in who is elected to serve in our local government. For her competence, passion for the town, and her commitment to fiscal responsibility, Retha Hicks has my vote for Winona Lake Clerk/Treasurer.
Ms. Hicks is a numbers person. She has accurately recorded the town’s business for 18 years. On her watch, Winona Lake has instituted cost-center accounting to better track expenses, developed a capital budget, and improved the town’s cash flow per Retha’s recommendation to reserve 6 months of incoming revenue. Her competence is highlighted by her selection to serve as the clerk/treasurer by the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers.
Retha demonstrates a passion for Winona Lake that is without equal among other elected officials that I have encountered. She loves her job, loves her town, and it shows! She fights to ensure that Winona Lake residents receive fair rates, and maintains our town’s investments to guarantee consistent returns.  Our town is fortunate to have a public servant who is so dedicated to her job.
Finally, Ms. Hicks is committed to fiscal responsibility. Winona Lake’s tax rate is $.55, the lowest in Kosciusko County. Retha’s due diligence and sound financial recommendations over 18 years are a primary reason that our rate is so exemplary. I have observed her perform careful financial analysis of proposed town expenditures and then recommend in the best interest of the residents of Winona Lake.
Thank you for your time. Please consider Retha Hicks on May 3.
Sincerely,
Aaron Wilcoxson
