Supports Fussle

I realize that as the election draws closer, more people are going to chime in on their opinions about each candidate, as they already have. Give me five minutes of your time to hear more about the two candidates running for county commissioner.
For the past five years, I've been out of town serving in the military and starting a family. After five years of service (and two tours in Iraq), I've finally had the opportunity to return home with my wife and kids to be close to my family here. Through it all I have always remained a responsible Indiana voter and stayed as informed as I could.
I have been in Bob Conley's barber chair quite a few times, both when he was working with his brother in Winona Lake and after they separated. We had shared many pleasant conversations about everything from military service to the passing of our community's beloved Officer Polston. I have even voted for him in a couple of past elections. Actually, I was planning on voting for him again when he was up for re-election.
It was only when my brother, Jon Fussle, was the keynote speaker at the Tea Party event on April 15 last year that my opinion of Mr. Conley began to change. Early one morning, about this time last year, I sat down in Bob's chair and we proceeded to make the small talk as usual while Bob went to work on my hair. Bob started in on the local Tea Party movement and how he thought it was foolish and nonsense.
It was clear that he never made the connection that Jon was my brother, since we look nothing alike, and he felt free to tell me what he really thought of this young man speaking out against irresponsible spending and higher taxes.
Without my solicitation, he turned to taking cheap shots at my brother covering the whole spectrum. While I might agree on some of his points, his overall tone-disdain and disrespect seemed cowardly. This experience has easily made me reconsider his motives and the interests of the community. To be honest, I was shocked, and I never told Bob that Jon was my brother. I regret not putting him in his place, but at the same time, I wanted to see where his tirade went. Recently, I learned that Bob professes to be a devout Christian, and let me be clear; there was nothing Christ like that came out of his mouth.
When I returned to Kosciusko County, nothing really seems to have changed under the guidance of Mr. Conley. What has he brought to the table that Avis Gunter didn't already have? Nothing. I firmly believe that Jon has everything it takes to fill this position, and a lot more. Jon has integrity, fortitude and a vested interest in this community. He is an accomplished pilot and an entrepreneur. He's an active member of the Optimist Club as well as the Chamber of Commerce. He also has family roots in this community that run deep regardless of his status of property ownership. That does not affect his strong desire to make things better for this county. Jon also has always stayed positive despite knowing about the dirt that Commissioner Conley has been digging up for this election.
Jon Fussle has my vote. Not because he is my brother but because he is the better man.
