Supports Conley

I have enjoyed this forum for a number of years, sometimes I have nodded in agreement with the writer and other times I have laughed at the absurdity of statements made, all the while, being thankful that we live in a country that provides us the freedom of speech.
My topic is in regards to the southern district county commissioners' race, between incumbent Bob Conley and challenger Jon Fussle. I do not know Jon and thus cannot comment on him and his ability to serve in any regard, and I wish him well. However, I have known Bob for more than 15 years. I first met him when I conceded that my father's choice of a hair style (flat top) was much more practical for a machinist than long hair. Bob assisted me by lowering my ears about a foot and the subsequent hair cuts have provided the opportunity to get to observe Bob in his daily life. I then entered into law enforcement and had further interactions with Bob as our paths of service crossed while responding to calls for assistance in our community.
Upon his election to county commissioner, I often questioned him in regards to issues and found that he always took the time to explain the details of a position or decision that I questioned. I got to observe Bob in his business dealings when my wife became a tenant in one of his commercial properties, and have found him to be a fair and equitable man in every aspect of his position as a landlord.
Over the years I have noticed that Bob not only talks the talk, but he walks the walk when it comes to his personal relationship with our Savior. I have seen the young men who came into his shop to sweep several times a week and saw their broad smiles as they felt the sense of empowerment given them, while they worked to complete a task, and observed their response to Bob as he loved and encouraged them.
I was saddened and disturbed recently when I read a statement indicating that Bob was going to "go negative in a big way" at the informal debate held Tuesday, sponsored by Silent No More. I was distressed because I spent several hours with Bob and his sons as they prepared for the upcoming event. His entire attention was focused on addressing the issues presented by Mr. Fussle and his desire to be able to provide an open accountability for his life of service.
We discussed Philippian 4:8 where the apostle Paul admonishes us, that whatever is; true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable if anything is excellent or praise worthy, think on these things. Bob stated that his campaign would stay on the moral high ground, and he would have no part in anything that he could not stand up and make an account of in front of the congregation of his church. I have watched Bob do this exactly, and would encourage the public to observe him as well.
If the effort is made to investigate the performance of our current county government and its elected officials, you will find that they have acted in our interest and have been extremely fiscally conservative. The rating of the security of our county's finances was recently upgraded from A+ to AA- due to the fiscal politics of our elected officials. This alone says something when you consider the current state of our nation's economy.
