I am Joe Bock, and I am running for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District against Jackie Walorski.
Our Congress is dysfunctional. Rather than give in to cynicism, I choose to believe in the people of the 2nd Congressional District and the immense potential we have as a nation.
Jackie Walorski was instrumental in shutting down our government a year ago. That cost our economy roughly $24 billion.  This was because of a petty partisan fight.
As we continue to address healthcare issues in America, I will stand up for small community hospitals to make sure they can stay in business so that people in rural areas have access to healthcare. I will also work to repeal the medical device tax.  That tax could have a negative impact on jobs in Warsaw and the surrounding community.
I would seek to serve on the Agriculture Committee. There’s been cutting-edge research done by Purdue University, and I’m excited about starting initiatives that relate to new bio-fuels that would be more cost-effective than other forms of alternative energy. And I will stand up for small farmers.
While in high school, I was a hired hand on a farm. We set lines on the river at night. We always carried a pistol with us. We’d use the pistol rather than wrestle with a 30+ pound catfish.  I mention this to stress that I support the Second Amendment. I will not take peoples’ guns away.
I am a teaching professor at Notre Dame. I’ve worked there close to eight years. Congresswoman Walorski is airing misleading ads that insinuate that I just moved here to run for Congress. I moved here because I got a great job offer from Notre Dame.
The vast majority of my career has been as a humanitarian worker responding to disasters all over the world, representing Catholic Relief Services and the American Refugee Committee. In 2010, I took a two-month leave from Notre Dame to help respond to the earthquake in Haiti.
I can build friendships with people who see the world differently. I have the personality and ability to cut through the partisan fog in the polarized environment that exists in our government today. That’s what the Second Congressional District needs right now. It’s what our country needs right now. This election is not about me. It is about us, demanding a functioning government again.
Congresswoman Walorski supports privatizing Social Security. I will not gamble with the hard-earned benefits of seniors. She voted to take away the Medicare guarantee, which would cost seniors thousands of dollars out of their pockets. I will strengthen Medicare. She voted to give tax breaks to corporations that are shipping jobs overseas. I will work to prevent such giveaways that hurt American workers.
We are a great nation. I ask for your support, regardless of your political party. This election is not about political parties. It is about getting the job done.
