I have waited several weeks before writing this letter because I was angered with the system. However, after reading another letter to the editor, I decided to write.[[In-content Ad]]I have an ex who is approximately $45,000 behind on child support. During the past year the prosecutor's office has tried to make arrangements for collection. My X was refused twice already for social security benefits. The last time he could not "work" at a job because he was hurt having "fun" on an ATV. During the past year and a half after not being able to collect so much as a dollar, the child support department then charged Mr. X with a class C felony. I might add with my whole hearted approval. After a few months Mr. X did the correct thing and turned himself into Warsaw jail. Having a cash bond of $45,000, I knew after he was given a "free" attorney, that bond would be reduced. However I had no idea he would be set free under his own recognizance. I was appalled! How ignorant of our system and the men who let this happen. I was informed that Mr. X was going to try for a third time to collect Social Security. This might take years for something to happen. Duh, I may not have a college degree but I have raised my daughter for 16 years by myself, worked hard and made sacrifices. I think this was wrong of the prosecutor's office to let him out of jail. He belongs in jail until some sufficient money is paid toward the raising of his daughter. I do not know who is more wrong my X or the system. If you agree after reading this please let someone downtown know.
