She was born April 5, 1932, in Goshen, to William and Martha A. Brown Whetten. On March 29, 1951, she married Ralph “Frank” Hoover, who died July 8, 1970. On Aug. 31, 1979, she married Dewey L. Baker, who died July 8, 1986.
She graduated from New Paris High School in 1950 and retired in 1995 from Dana Corp., Syracuse, after 42 years as a quality assurance clerk. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 223 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1382, both of Syracuse; Daughters of American Veterans Auxiliary, Goshen; and Dana Retirees, Syracuse.
Surviving are four daughters, Marilyn (and spouse Joe Bill) Bartman, Jacqueline Blosser and Janice Wood, all of Syracuse, and Faye (and spouse Ronald) Church, New Paris; a son, William “Bill” (and spouse Norma) Hoover, Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anita Whetten, New Paris, and Carolyn (and spouse Tom) Hull, Ligonier; and four brothers: Jerry (and spouse Ann) Whetten, Syracuse; Larry (and spouse Lucy) Whetten, Edwardsburg, Mich.; and Gary and Marvin Whetten, both of Baldwin, Mich. She also was preceded in death by a grandson and two sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
