There were 70 people including chamber staff, members, Builders Association staff and members, local business owners and local officials including Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, Bob Sanders, Kosciusko County Council president, Mike Klondaris, city councilman, and Terry Howie, Winona Lake town councilman, who attended the event at the chamber office in Warsaw.
Stutzman spoke about the immigration issue and said there needs to be border security and that President Barack Obama has not visited the border and needs to do so.
“We are a nation of immigrants and can’t blame anyone from wanting to come to America, but there is a legal process everyone needs to follow to become a U.S. citizen,” Stutzman said.
He said the U.S. needs to know what is going on at the border to prevent disease and illegals coming into the U.S.
“Just having a presence at the border will keep people from coming across the border,” Stutman said.
Stutzman said the government is also monitoring the Ebola situation.
He spoke about the upcoming election and said he is focusing on the job creation issues.
He said he will have a job fair at IPFW in Fort Wayne this week and that there is a necessity to have a skilled workforce and said there is a problem in northeast Indiana with there not being a skilled workforce to fill jobs.
Stutzman said there are 3,000 jobs that need to be filled that will be available for those interested to apply for at the job fair.
During Tuesday’s event, Stutzman was presented with the Spirit Of Enterprise Award from Cholly Smith, U.S. Chamber of Commerce manager, for his commitment to supporting the business community.[[In-content Ad]]
