State Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb spoke about the importance of the party during Thursday night’s Kosciusko County Lincoln Day Dinner.
The dinner was attended by 100 Republicans at Champagne Jam in Warsaw.
Holcomb thanked Kosciusko County Republicans for their service to the party and presented Steve Foster, Kosciusko County Republican Party treasurer, with an honorary award for his service to the party.
Holcomb spoke about former President Abraham Lincoln and his leadership, and said the GOP is on a battlefield of ideas about who they are as a country.
Holcomb said Obama’s policies encourage more dependence on a more centralized and intrusive government through more taxes and spending, printing of money and debt.
Holcomb thanked Senators Ryan Mishler, Carlin Yoder and Randy Head, and State Representatives Rebecca Kubacki and Dave Wolkins for their leadership.
He also thanked Senator Dan Coats, Congressman Marlin Stutzman and Congresswoman Jackie Walorski for their efforts.
Holcomb said there are  things the GOP must do to stay strong including talking about how to grow the economy, and offer a credible GOP agenda with solutions.
Other things that need to be done are to connect and relate to everyone who seeks a better life for themselves and meet with those who do not support the GOP party.
Secretary of State Connie Lawson spoke during the dinner and said Kosciusko County legislators are to be thanked for supporting legislation for elections and security services.
Emily Daniels, representing Walorski, read a letter from the congresswoman.
Walorski, who sits on the House Budge Committee, said a budget was passed that is balanced and improves the economy and lowers taxes.
Allison McSherry, liaison for Stutzman, read a letter from Stutzman. Stutzman said he appreciates the work the Kosciusko GOP party does.
McSherry announced the annual GOP Golf Outing is Sept. 12 at Maxwelton Golf Club.
Kubacki, Wolkins and Head spoke during the dinner.
Kubacki said after two years of fighting, legislators worked together this legislative session and Indiana kept its triple A credit rating. She also said the legislator came together on issues that help children, the economy and state.
Wolkins said Indiana put money back into reserves and paid for buildings instead of bonding them out.
Head said income taxes were lowered and the state inheritance tax was lowered as well as agriculture property taxes.
