The dinner was at the Old Train Depot, and was attended by 100 Republicans, including 3rd District Congressman Marlin Stutzman, and Jackie Walorski, 2nd district congressional candidate.
Berry, the keynote speaker, said he never thought change the country could believe in was spending a way out of a recession by spending dollars the country does not have.
“My question is, is that change you can believe in or change from what we believe?” Berry asked.
Berry said last October the federal government closed the year on the biggest deficit in the nation’s history, but by July Indiana closed with a balanced budget.
“In Indiana we are doing more with less and made great progress in Indiana in 2010 by bringing back control of the U.S. House of Representatives,” Berry said.
Berry said Kosciusko County does the right thing by electing Republicans, and said the state needs the county’s help in 2012.
He encouraged the county to vote for Republican 2nd congressional district candidate Jackie Walorski.
With redistricting, the east and southeast portion of Kosciusko County will stay in the 3rd district and be represented by Congressman Marlin Stutzman.
The north, west and southwest portions of Kosciusko County will be in the 2nd congressional district. All of Wabash and Miami counties will be included in the 2nd district.
Walorski, who is running against current Democrat 2nd District Congressman Joe Donnelly in 2012, spoke during the dinner.
“When I saw we would have the honor of standing side by side with congressman Stutzman to represent Kosciusko County, I was grateful because this county is a remarkable place,” Walorski said.
Stutzman spoke during the dinner and said it is great to be in Washington to brag about northeast Indiana.
“We have a lot of challenges in Washington because you think it would be common sense to not spend more money than we take in,” Stutzman said. “The Democrats continue to spend more money than what we have.”
He said Republicans are working on laying out a plan and direction to fix the financial problem.
Warsaw and Winona Lake candidates running in Tuesday’s primary had the opportunity to introduce themselves at the end of the evening.[[In-content Ad]]
