Officers responding to a call concerning a possible suicide Monday night ended up being involved in a standoff.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept. deputies responded to a call of a subject contemplating suicide at 4648 CR 500N at 5:39 p.m. Deputies were advised that the subject, Michael Jay Davis, 56, Warsaw, possibly had weapons and had already cut himself.

Arriving officers located a Ford Ranger pickup truck at the residence that suddenly accelerated toward officers in the driveway. Officers immediately drew weapons and attempted to negotiate with Davis. Davis had allegedly made comments that he would run over the officers and that he wished to die.

As deputies began to position around the vehicle, Davis suddenly reversed his truck back toward the garage area. As officers were talking with Davis, other responding deputies were able to approach the rear of the truck and stunned him with a Taser® device.

Davis was taken into custody and transported to the Bowen Center after officers noted that he had cut himself several times on the wrist. Officers also located 12 knives inside the vehicle and were allowed to secure numerous rifles, shotguns and handguns from his residence.

Davis had apparently been despondent over the death of his wife several years ago.

Deputies have filed charges with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office against Davis this morning of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest and intimidation with a deadly weapon. Davis is still at the Bowen Center at this time.[[In-content Ad]]
