NORTH WEBSTER – Stacy E. “Shorty” Davis Jr., 86, Fort Myers, Fla., and formerly of North Webster, passed away Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Stacy and Anna Rosenbaum Davis. On Nov 27, 1953, he married Rachel Iona Hartleroad, who preceded him in death.
He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and retired after 22 years of service as electrician mate chief EMC(SS). His naval career was mostly spent in the submarines. After his naval career, he worked at United Telephone Company in Warsaw. He and Iona owned Davis Cottages and Davis Beauty Shop on Little Barbee Lake.
He was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the VFW, Moose, Fleet Reserve and Sub Vets. He was a past master in the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Roxanna Carr, North Webster, and Jill (and spouse Curtis) Huff, Nappanee; five grandchildren: Crystal, Calvin Jr. and Kevin Carr, North Webster; Sarah (and spouse Daniel) Hawkins, Nappanee; and Brant Gibson, Wakarusa; five great-grandchildren: Stacie, Nicholas, Hailie and Alyssa Carr and Gavin Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by a son, Barry.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 25 at the American Legion, North Webster. In keeping with his wishes, he has been cremated and interned at the National Military Cemetery in Florida.
