The Warsaw teen who was critically injured in an April stabbing has been arrested on burglary charges after Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. officers linked him to a pair of mid-April thievings from local homes.
Cody Joseph Thomas Slone, 19, of 1212 Timon Drive, Warsaw, who suffered a severe 20-inch cut to his arm April 23 in an attack following a Robin Drive party, was arrested Thursday morning on preliminary felony burglary and theft charges, in connection to reports filed with the sheriff’s department April 14 and April 16 that allege he took items from two homes in the 600 block of East Lakewood Avenue. Slone is being held in Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bail.
According to the reports, Winona Lake police began an investigation after Douglas Jones reported the garage at his 612 E. Lakewood Ave. residence had been broken into, with two bottles of fruit juice, $75 in coins and personal identification documents lifted. Jones told police the window of the building had been broken out, and police found blood around it, the report said.
As police canvassed the area, an officer noticed a window of the garage at the home at 622 E. Lakewood Ave. was also broken. Police found more blood in that area, and a trail of blood running from there to the home, the report said.
A resident of that home – Ian Patterson – told police he knew nothing of the break-ins, but said Slone and another man had stayed at the home but had since left, the report said. A visitor to the home told officers that she had woken and came into the home’s living room to find Slone with blood on his face, but he would not explain where it came from, the report said.
Police secured a washcloth from Patterson’s home believed to have been used by Slone, and photographed both break-in locations.
Two days later - April 18 - Kathy Turner, who owns the home at 622 E. Lakewood Ave., reported a laptop, a video game console, Star Trek collectibles, a phone charger and clothing were missing from her home. She told police that Slone was staying with her son and suggested he was tied to the missing items, the report said.
Nearly two months and a critical stabbing later, Slone was arrested for the thefts. According to the sheriff’s department, Slone confessed to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Sheriff J.D. Ayres in an interview to committing both crimes.[[In-content Ad]]
