Squires Lose First Game With Baker As Coach
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
North Manchester - New Manchester head football coach Brandon Baker will have to wait at least another week before he can celebrate his first win at the helm of the Squires. Mississinewa was able to move the ball and shut down Manchester en route to a 35-9 win.
Senior quarterback Joe Egner went 18 of 37 for just 98 yards as the Squires adjusted to a new spread offense brought in by Baker.
Egner did connect with Jared Barrett on a 9-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter.
Running back Nate Stoops was solid for the Squires, rushing for 71 yards on 17 carries. Stoops also had nine tackles to tie a team high with Jason Dale.
Despite the loss, Baker knows where his team fell short but expects a quick turnaround.
"We had too many mental mistakes but will come out ready to go next week," he said.
The Squires hosts Heritage on Friday with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
