By Staff Report-
Sponsored by the Friends of the Nappanee Public Library, the extravaganza of visual arts will be held at the Coppes Commons shopping complex, 401 E. Market St. (US 6), April 26 and 27.
Fine art, free hands-on workshops, demonstrations and more – it’s a celebration of the arts and the artistic process, and it’s all in your own back yard.
Make plans to take part in this event bustling with shopping, learning and inspiration for all ages.
The art fair takes place at the recently-renovated Coppes kitchen factory and will feature more than 40 artists working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, photography and more. Visitors will also have the chance to see all of the recently retouched quilt murals from along the heritage trail in one place.
“We are thrilled to be working with Coppes Commons this year and feel that the facility will offer an attractive space to showcase the work of our artists and a convenient place for our guests to shop and learn,” said coordinator and artist, Jessica Flores. “With the addition of Coppes vendors and amenities, guests will find it easy to spend the entire day at the event.”
More than a dozen workshops will be offered, including jewelry-making, illustration, watercolor and pastel painting, charcoal drawing, photography and more. Pre-registration is recommended for these classes, all of which are free of charge. Call 574-773-7919, or go to www.nappaneelibrary.org to register, beginning April 12.
Open hours for the public are Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free. For a minimum pledge of $25 to either purchase artwork during the show or give as a gift in support of the program, guests get the chance to attend a special Purchase Award Sponsor Preview Reception Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
“There is something for everyone at this event,” says Flores. “The collector has the chance to add to their collection of work from favorite returning artists and ‘scout’ new talent while families looking for affordable fun can spend hours creating and learning about the arts first-hand."
The purpose of Spring Into Art is to support the arts, to promote artists, and to benefit the Friends of the Nappanee Public Library and the Nappanee Public Library Foundation. Funds are used throughout the year to bring the community enriching, educational and entertaining programs.
