A program titled Savvy Social Security Planning for Baby Boomers will be this month at Warsaw Community Public Library.
Terry Dupont, president and CEO of DuPont & Associates Inc., as well as founder and COO of Equity Asset Advisors LLC, will lead the program.
The program is Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Warsaw Community Public Library.
To help baby boomers better understand the Social Security system, this workshop will cover five factors to consider when deciding when to apply for benefits.
Areas that will be covered are when it makes sense to delay benefits and when it does not, why you should always check your earnings record for accuracy, and how to estimate your benefits.
Other areas will be how to coordinate benefits with your spouse, how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits, and how to coordinate Social Security with your other sources of retirement income.
“After being told for years that Social Security is ‘going broke,’ baby boomers are realizing that it will soon be their turn to collect,” Dupont said. “But the decisions they make now can have a tremendous impact on the total amount of benefits they stand to receive over their lifetime.”
The Social Security Administration says that 73 percent of all retirees are receiving less than they could be due to improper filing strategies.
Proper planning for the average couple could mean $200,000 or more in increased benefits over their lifetimes.
Dupont received the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist designation from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colo.,  and is certified as a Social Security planning specialist by the American Retirement Benefits Council.
Dupont has been in the financial and retirement planning business for 35 years.
He provides financial planning, retirement planning, asset protection services, professional money management, healthcare planning and estate planning services.
